Child Development Curriculum
In order to earn
a credential, certificate or become a licensed
trainer, students must complete the required
courses, a portfolio, a prior learning
assessment and a formal observation to be submitted to the
Council for Professional Recognition (http://www.cdacouncil.org/)
for review.
These courses
prepares students to:
Bring a
strong developmental perspective to
their work with young children and
families
Support
second-language learners and children
with special needs
Create
opportunities to examine and reflect on
their teaching
Improve
classroom practice and learning
environments through hands-on activities
Improve

assist parents in caring effectively for
their children

Requirements of program:
For a
credential,
a student must complete
3
credit hours of training;
For a
certificate,
a student must complete
18 credit
hours of training
To become a
licensed trainer,
a student must complete
21 credit
hours of training;
All students must
also:
Complete
480
clock hours of fieldwork in the disabilities
service area
Complete online
examination and documentation process
Complete a Prior
Learning Assessment portfolio packet
Pay license fee
(License fees are determined by state in
which student resides)

Resource file presented to the Council for
Professional Recognition
Complete the award
review process
Professional Resource File
Each course has been
designed so that the CDA credential competencies
will be demonstrated through hands on
assignments, enabling each student to build the
required portfolio is made toward the CDA
Certificate. For students seeking CDA
status, this file will consist of 17 resource
items. All assignments given throughout the
courses are complied to create the final
Professional Resource File.
Admission
Criteria
Candidates for
admission to the credential program must be
employed in a Head Start program (Working 20
hours or more) and possess a
high school diploma or General Educational
Development (GED) diploma. Candidates must
complete an application for admission and an
eligibility assessment form and register for a 3
day credential event or a 6 week online
credential event.
The deadline for 2013 Fall #1 session is September 30, 2013.
Classes begins on October 21. The next
session starts 6 weeks after that date.
