Family Engagement Certificate License (15
credits)
The
Certificate License in
Family Engagement
provides a basic academic foundation that is
designed to build the capacity of all Head Start
staff to make Head Start's renewed vision for
family engagement a reality for every parent in
every program. The program is consist of
five courses that define the goals of the PFCE
vision for parents, family and the community.
A
license is a
"collegiate diploma". It is a
post-secondary academic process of establishing
the qualifications of professionals working in
the Family Service areas.
Students will
learn how to apply the PFCE outcomes to their
daily work, demonstrate the skills necessary for
forming supportive engagement partnerships with
families, develop approaches for providing
engagement activities to families and assess
their own skills in effectively engaging with
families and establish plans for professional
development.
The program is
designed to establish the foundations for
engaging a community of support.
Participants will learn how to use engagement to
support each other and families through
recognizing and reinforcing individual and
family strengths, attentive listening, "reaching
out" and displaying accepting and caring
behaviors.
This
program is also designed to help you develop
and conduct Family Service trainings. It is
designed for "non-trainers" and for
people who may conduct trainings
everyday. It covers the skills
necessary for trainers to effectively
setup training events in accordance to
the University's required credential
curriculum.
Requirements of program:
Complete 12
credit hours of training
Complete a
general management course (3 credits)
Complete 120
clock hours of fieldwork in the Family Service area
Complete online
examination and documentation process
Complete a Prior
Learning Assessment portfolio packet
Pay license fee
(License fees are determined by state in
which student resides)

Admission
Criteria
Candidates for
admission to the certificate program must be
employed in a Head Start program and possess a
high school diploma or General Educational
Development (GED) diploma.
The deadline for October 21 start is
September 30, 2013. Each new
session starts 6 weeks after that date.
