Earning a credential in health services management (5 credits)

The demand for specialized and skilled Head Start Health workers is strong and growing on a daily basis. Agencies need to be assured that the professionals they hire can handle health compliance and regulatory issues and still provide the program with the health resources that are beneficial to families. Keeping a program in compliance today with state, local and federal health regulations plays a key role in nearly every Head Start. A candidate can earn a credential that ensures a level of competency that produces high quality, comprehensive program effectiveness.  As you advance, you acquire a new level of competency based on performance skills.  All our trainings are based upon the Head Start performance standards.  These standards serve as a means of measuring the performance of Head Start employees during the curriculum based examinations. Course Description: This 50 hour in-depth health credentialing program is designed to help health services staff coordinate, plan, implement and organize comprehensive health services for children and families in Head Start.  Participants will learn to collect and monitor health services data and maintain files for compliance.  You will also learn how to distribute specialized health  reports and perform health performance standard requirements.  As part of the credentialing process, you will  learn how to coordinate, prepare, organize and assist in federal health compliance issues such as the collection of health information for the Program Information Report and the annual Self-Assessment. Best practice and instruction will be given on how to develop and implement health service area plans and how to work with your Disability specialist to ensure the timely referrals of children with special needs. This course concentrates on the health data collection, reporting and monitoring processes.  Participants are introduced to methodology for obtaining various health information including medical history, nutrition, immunizations, dental records and other medical needs of children and families.

Learning Objectives:  Upon completion of this course, you will: Understand the federal requirement for maintaining quality health services, Develop procedures to best document and record medical, dental and other health information, Support parents in obtaining follow-up services for identified health needs, Evaluate program procedures for screening and exams and develop strategies for improvement, Address barriers and challenges, Identify and implement best practices for health services

Target Audience: This course is designed for Health Coordinators, Family Workers, and Health Workers.  It will also be beneficial for Education Workers, Parent Involvement Workers, Administrative Staff, Manager, Program Area Managers, Directors, Coordinators or anyone wanting management experiences or those Head Start staff who are responsible for managing a supportive parent environment.
