Associates in Occupational Science Degree Program

 

Program Management - ERSEA

 

The Associate of Occupational Science degree in Program Management includes an ERSEA core curriculum in addition to all the specialized courses.  This two year program is designed to equip the student with the experience and skills needed to work with families and children in a Head Start environment.  Current Head Start employment is required.

 

 Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of all program requirements, graduates will be able to:
   

1.

Identify a variety of current and historical theoretical approaches to ERSEA
2. Identify and assess the elements that determine quality in ERSEA processes
3. Establish community-based effective practices and procedures for identifying needs based on social, education, health, nutrition and in-crisis situations
4. Exhibit knowledge of federal and state regulations regarding eligibility of children birth through five, based on methods used for documenting age and income requirement and accurate record keeping
5. Maintain a level of expertise in order to develop and implement procedures that facilitate active encouragement and participation of eligible children within the community
6. Establish and implement policies and procedures to identify children and families with high needs in areas of education, nutrition, health and in-crisis situation
7. Encourage program participation by providing opportunities through enrollment
8. Maintain consistent child development by providing active daily participation through attendance
9. Ensure effective program operation through on-going evaluation and improvement efforts
10 Effectively utilize an array of tools and processes to systematically identify and enroll children with disabilities
11 Understand and monitor the link between program design and eligibility and its effect on enrollment, recruitment, selection and attendance

 

 Program Information

 

Program Length

All courses are five weeks in length, three credits unless specified otherwise. HS University students are Head Start working adults who can earn their degrees at their own pace and on their own schedule.  Most students attend part-time, and the normal time to complete this program is 3.1 years.

 

Program Cost

Cost information for HS University program is available at http://www.hsuniversity.org/cost_fees.html.  The tuition and fees for the entire program, at current tuition rates, are $35,550.  The total estimated cost for books and supplies for the entire program is $3,000.

 

For those HR managers setting up professional development budgets, a student should plan for approximately $11,000.00 per year for individual professional development/degree cost.
