Bachelor of Science Degree Program
(Occupational)
Early Childhood Education
HS University offers a Bachelor of
Occupational Science in Early Childhood Education
to meet the needs of adult students who
want to complete an BS in education
before entering into the professional
programs.
The Bachelor of Science curriculum
provides a solid foundation and overview
within the academic disciplines of
communication, leadership, and other
skills necessary for teaching in the
area of early childhood education. The
curriculum requires a solid background
of child development and instructional
methodology for PK-3 students as well as
essential content courses in math,
science, and the humanities. A strong
emphasis is placed on relevant field
experiences throughout the program.
Teacher candidates are required to
demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and
dispositions needed to have a positive
impact on student achievement in Grades
PK-3.
The curriculum
includes the Head Start Child
Development and Early Learning Framework
core in addition to all the specialized
courses. This two-year program is
designed to equip the student with the
experience and skills needed to work
with children under five.
Current Head Start employment and
working as a teacher's aide or above is
required.

Program Length
All courses are five weeks in length,
three credits unless specified
otherwise.
HS University students are Head Start
working adults who can earn their
degrees at their own pace and on their
own schedule. Most students attend
part-time, and the normal time to
complete this program is 4.5 years.

program, at current tuition rates, are
$47,400. The total estimated cost
for books and supplies for the entire
program is $6,000.
For those HR managers setting up
professional development budgets, a
student should plan for approximately
$11,000.00 per year for individual
professional development/degree cost.
