Program Design & Management (PDM) -
Management
The Associates in Occupational Science in Program Management
with a concentration on Management is designed to
provide the student with the knowledge,
theory and techniques of management in
both private and public organizations.
Upon completion, students will be
prepared for an entry-level management
position, advancement in their current
position, or transfer to a four-year
program.
Current Head Start employment is
required.

management, human resources,
performance standards, and Head

Organize thoughts and ideas and
communicate, using proper
professional writing techniques
as well as verbal presentation
skills, in a manner that can be
easily understood in Head Start

Demonstrate a responsible
attitude in relationships with
staff, family, management,
policy groups and local
community partners and leaders |

Solve problems
related to various aspects of
management including fiscal,
finance and operations |

Understand and
practice managerial functions of
planning, organizing, leading
and directing, as well as the
nature and responsibilities of
the changing roles of Head Start
managers |

Have a working
knowledge of
Performance Standards, Head
Start Act and how to develop
area
plans, including health,
disabilities, education,
professional development and
program design. |

Demonstrate an
ability to define management
problems, examine alternatives,
decide on the best course of
action, and submit written
reports to directors and board. |

Develop an
understanding of the
decision-making process and
demonstrate effective, ethical
and legal decision making |

personal philosophy of Head
Start goals, and Head Start
Management Initiative, enabling
the graduate student to perform
as a manager, coach, leader,

as it applies to Head Start

Program Length
All courses are five weeks in length,
three credits unless specified
otherwise.
HS University students are Head Start
working adults who can earn their
degrees at their own pace and on their
own schedule. Most students attend
part-time, and the normal time to
complete this program is 3.1 years.

The tuition and fees for the entire
program, at current tuition rates, are
$35,550. The total estimated cost
for books and supplies for the entire
program is $3,000.
For those HR managers setting up
professional development budgets, a
student should plan for approximately
$11,000.00 per year for individual
professional development/degree cost.
