The Credential in Family Engagement provides a basic academic foundation that is designed to build the capacity of all Head Start staff to make Head Start's renewed vision for family engagement a reality for every parent in every program. The program is consist of five courses that define the goals of the PFCE vision for parents, family and the community. A license is a "collegiate diploma". It is a post-secondary academic process of establishing the qualifications of professionals working in the Family Service areas. There are two credentials:
Level 1: Administrative Credential is an "Emerging Leaders Program." Basic Core competencies include flexibility, interpersonal skills, self-direction, technical credibility, project management, leveraging diversity. Technical competencies vary by content area. Candidate must complete 15 units below.
Level 2: Supervisor Credential is a "Supervisor Development Program." Core competencies include Basic Core competencies, plus resilience, conflict management, team building, influencing/negotiating, human resources management, service motivation and accountability. Technical competencies vary by content area. Candidate must complete 30 units below.
Level 3: Management License is a "Executive Management Program." Core competencies include all supervisor competencies, plus creativity/innovation, technology management and organizational systems awareness. Technical competencies vary by content area. Candidate must complete 45 units below plus a practicum.
Admission Criteria - Candidates for admission to the certificate program must be employed in a Head Start program and possess a high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma.
