  Academic Program Requirements
 

The University has established a curriculum program that advances the educational knowledge of Head Start Professionals.  Students who enroll in our academic programs are those seeking progression beyond the educational degree. A credential or license with the University denotes professional commitment and achievement and represents a "plus" feature of knowledge and experience that meets or exceeds excellence in Head Start professionals at the national level.

 

Credential vs. License...

A credential is an "educational process" of establishing the qualifications of professional in Head Start programs.  The process consist of attainment of a specific skill level and knowledge of regulations and the assessing of the candidate's educational background and experience.

 

A license is an advance degree-seeking certificate and can be used towards post-secondary degrees.  This process is inclusive of the credential process but provides a higher educational and skill level attainment by utilizing a prior learning assessment and collecting student fieldwork requirements students earn educational credits that are transferrable to 2 year or 4 years advance degrees. Students enrolled in this program will receive official University transcripts showing college credits earned. State, Federal and Local boards requirements have to be met in each content area.

 

All academic program requirements must be met in order for a student to be considered graduated. To meet the requirements for a program, a candidate must complete all credit hours for their chosen content area.

A candidate must meet the following requirements for a chosen content area:

  • Credential - requires (3) three credit hours of training, 120 clock hours of fieldwork or and the successful completion of (2) two exams
  • Licensed Trainer - requires (18) eighteen credit hours of training or 120 clock hours of field work and the successful completion of 4 exams as well as conduct 1 training event in which HS University can evaluate.
  • Professional License
    • Complete a Premiere credential
    • Complete (15)  credit hours of classroom instruction
    • Complete 120 clock hours of supervised fieldwork
    • Complete a PLA (Prior Learning Assessment) portfolio of knowledge development
    • Complete a field observation and complete a practicum
    • Receive a comprehensive review of knowledge and practice.

Privacy Policy: Because of laws protecting confidentiality and privacy, only you can register yourself for a test or make inquiries regarding registration status or test scores.  Your private information will not be made available to anyone but you.

Exam Cost$185 per exam (2 or more exams per credential)

 

Method of Examination:  Campus or Online

 

Prerequisites for Examination:  There are no pre-requisites for credential examination, however there is a course hour pre-requisite for credential status.  All students are encourage to attend HS University courses prior to taking examination.  Student rate of passing is 90% as opposed to 45% for students not attending HS University courses.

 

Reporting to the Test Site: Your admission ticket lists your test selection, test site, test date, and reporting time.  Please report to the test site no later than scheduled reporting time.  See Test Selection for reporting and dismissal times and test session lengths.  

On the day of the test, you will want to dress comfortably in layers.  This will allow you to adjust for the temperature at the test site, which may vary and may not be under the control of the test administrators.  Please wear soft-soled shoes to help maintain a quiet testing environment.  Water bottles may be allowed in the testing room, provided they are clear, do not have a label, have secure lid, and are stored under your seat, not on your desk during testing.

Late arrivals policy - It is essential that you report for each assigned test session no later than the time indicated on your admission ticket.  If you arrive late to a test session, you may not be admitted.  If you are admitted late, you will not be given any additional time beyond the scheduled ending time for the test session, and you will be required to sign a statement acknowledging this.  

If you arrive late and are not admitted, you will be considered absent and will not receive a refund or credit of any kind.  You will need to register and pay again to test at a future administration.

 

Official Examinee Score Reports: Your official score will be sent to you by email on the score report date published in "Test Dates."  Your score report will be sent to the email address that you provided during the registration process.  If you wish to have your score report sent to a different address, you may complete a Registration Information Correction Form at the test site on the day of the test.  

 

Your score report provides information about your passing status and other performance information.  If you have not received your score report two week after the score report date, call (901) 758-4034.  Under no circumstances will your official score report information be released in person or by telephone, fax or email.
